i caught 2012 yesterday. like kif, i had expected a movie filled with effects on how the earth was being torn apart from the inside. the movie wasn't solely all that. it came with a storyline. given that the selling point of the movie was digital mayhem, the interhuman relations naturally became secondary. while it was a subliminal presentation, it certainly invoke some deep thoughts.
there was no angry mob suggesting that the institutions were already in the know. it was a young indian astrophysicst who first discovered what was to come. he shares it with his african-american friend who works at the White House, possibly because the latter would be in a better position to create awareness and have more means to come out with solutions. danny glover played the president. think eugenics. think money.
why china as the disembarkation point?
perhaps, it is already a fact that china and india are going to be the world's most powerful countries.
i'm not going to get into too much details. it's an enjoyable movie. maybe forgettable but the thoughts invoked sure aren't. haven't watched too many john cusack movies but he is my favorite unconventional hero. amanda peet looks like the american sweetheart kinda girl too. oh arcs aside, they have a son named noah in the movie. nasa has a page to debunk 2012 myths. entails a fair bit of sarcasm too imho.
perhaps its just the post examinations effect. i'll prolly never make it as a social scientist. and definately, not one who write movie reviews.
what would i be doing when the world comes to an end. i've told the lads.
